2000 - 1 Geng-Chen Year - Special Stamp. The State Bureau issued a set of two special stamps under the title "Geng-Chen Year" on January 5, 2000, with a face value of 360 fen. The titles of the stamps are "The Galloping Propitious Dragon" and "The Sun Rising in the Eastern Sky". The year 2000 is the Year of Geng-Chen according to the Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches or the Year of the Dragon for the ordinary people. The dragon represents the most sacred animal in Chinese folk culture and is a lovely animal created by the working people long ago to symbolize power and strength. According to a legend the dragon originated from the clan society in remote antiquity and its history goes back several thousand years. As society has progressed people have constantly enriched the image and culture of the dragon.
